Sandon residents to vote in Neighbourhood Plan Referendum

Sandon residents can vote in an upcoming planning referendum on Thursday 23 November 2023.

The Sandon Neighbourhood Plan has been developed by Sandon Parish Council.

It covers the whole of the parish, and includes planning policies on village character, development, building design, biodiversity and wildlife habitats, active and healthy travel and community facilities.

What’s a Neighbourhood Plan?

Neighbourhood plans are when town and parish councils, or other organisations, take the lead in making development decisions for their local area, that fit with the community’s needs. This can include creating development plans, community plans and planning orders. The city council will help them to create the plans, and make decisions at key stages.

Sandon Parish Council has developed a neighbourhood plan, following wide community consultation, which they think will benefit the local community – and now residents get the chance to vote yes or no on whether it should be used.

Who can vote?

You will only be able to vote in the planning referendum if you are registered to vote in the Sandon Parish Council area. You’ll have received a poll card already if you’re registered to vote.

If you are not currently registered to vote, and wish to vote in the referendum, you need to register on the GOV.UK website by midnight on Tuesday 7 November 2023.

If you are eligible to vote in this election, you can cast your vote at the appropriate polling station. The two polling stations for this referendum are:

• Sandon Village Hall, Woodhill Road, Sandon, Chelmsford, CM2 7SQ
• Howe Green United Reformed Church, East Hanningfield Road, Sandon, Chelmsford, CM2 7TH

Voters will need to present an accepted form of photo ID to vote in person at this referendum. Find out more about voter ID.
