About Chelmsford City Life

Chelmsford City Life is a news site with stories, information and updates from Chelmsford City Council, UK.

Why does the council have a news site?

Every council has a duty to tell taxpayers about:

  • what it does on their behalf
  • what services the council provides
  • important announcements, like public health information
  • decisions we make that affect the area
  • how residents can get involved in those decisions

Chelmsford City Life is our way of getting that information out to the right people while making it as interesting and easy to read as possible.

Before this website, information was sent to residents three times a year in the City Life newspaper. The last issue hit doormats on 8 March 2021. You can see archive copies of City Life on the Chelmsford City Council website.

How do you run the site?

The site is managed by officers of the Council, so it’s politically and commercially neutral. That means we don’t favour any political party or commercial company.

We aren’t a ‘real’ newspaper, so we can’t carry adverts. We also can’t run stories about anything that Chelmsford City Council isn’t directly involved in. However, if you’re a business looking for advertising, we recommend contacting our excellent local press.

Who writes the content?

Council officers (see below) write all the stories on this website. This isn’t our whole job. We do it alongside our other work to get important information out to residents, businesses and others in Chelmsford.

I’m a journalist with a press enquiry.

You can contact us directly using the buttons below for information and comments. Or if you aren’t sure which member of the press office to contact, please use our contact form or call us on 01245 606900.

Please don’t contact Council staff directly: always use the press office. We can help you get the right person and the right information first time, without you and our colleagues having to go around the houses.
