Residents honoured at Mayor’s Community Evening

Last night, 42 outstanding Chelmsford residents were honoured at the Mayor’s Community Evening, held at Hylands House.

Wellbeing theme for Community Evening

Hosted by the Mayor of Chelmsford, the event celebrated residents who’ve made significant contributions to their community. This year’s theme was wellbeing and Chelmsford’s younger residents and their achievements were also recognised.

A young harpist from New Hall School and the Chelmsford Morris Ladies provided music and entertainment throughout the evening.

Here are some of the individuals honoured:

Pamela Brider

Pamela Brider is a volunteer with English for Women, a voluntary service initially set up in 2015 to teach English to refugees from Afghanistan. The refugees were the wives of translators who had supported the British Army. Since then, the organisation has expanded and welcomes women from all over the world. Pamela plays a vital role in helping them to learn English and integrate into life in Chelmsford.

Freda Mountain

Freda Mountain was a Chelmsford City Councillor for 32 years. She is now a Trustee and volunteer for Age Concern Day Centre. During the Covid lockdowns, the centres provided hot meals to elderly people living in their own homes.

Michelle Durant

Michelle is a Chelmsford Community Radio presenter and volunteer who has helped to fundraise and support people with disabilities and mental health issues through her broadcasting.
