Jubilee celebrations in Chelmsford
2022 marks Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, making her the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
To celebrate this historic occasion, there are events taking place throughout the year, including the four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday June 2 to Sunday 5 June.
The celebration will include public events and community activities around the UK, including here in Chelmsford.
Chelmsford Cathedral, 31 May
Chelmsford Cathedral is organising a stay and play Lego session on Tuesday 31 May, from 10am to 12 noon. The theme this time is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and they’re challenging children to design and build a castle fit for a Queen and maybe some accessories for the corgis! Widford Parish Centre, 8 May to 5 June
Parish of Widford Festival of Art and Platinum Jubilee exhibition (POWfest) is currently underway until 5 June. This family-friendly community exhibition is taking place at the Parish Centre and Church of the Holy Spirit with more than 170 artworks and photographs with contributions from 27 local artists, two schools, parishioners and Chelmsford College. The Festival is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 12pm and 3pm to 5.30pm, 7pm to 9pm Wednesday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.
Oaklands Park, 2 June
Chelmsford City Council will be organising a civic beacon lighting at Oaklands Park led by the Mayor of Chelmsford on the evening of 2 June. A special tune called “Diu Regnare” will be played as a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen, followed by a bugle call by the Essex Army Cadets. The Jubilee beacon will be lit at 9.45pm.
Boreham Recreation Grounds, 2 June
A beacon lighting event will also be happening on 2 June, 9.45pm at the Boreham Recreation Grounds. Organised by Boreham Parish Council, the event starts at 1pm and will include a parade, live entertainment and fun activities for the whole family.
South Woodham Ferrers Village Hall playing fields, 2 June
Enjoy live music, games, food and drinks from 1pm-5pm at South Woodham Village Hall on 2 June followed by a Jubilee beacon lighting at 9.45pm. For more information, call 01245 325568.
Great Waltham, 2 June

Sandon, 2 June

Great Baddow, 2 June
Great Baddow Parish Council is hosting a picnic in the park at the Great Baddow Recreation Grounds at 3pm, 2 June. Bring along your picnic baskets and enjoy the free family activities.
Central Park, 5 June
Chelmsford Festival is organising a big Jubilee picnic from 12pm – 4pm. The location has now changed from Central Park to the covered outdoor area of Riverside Leisure Centre by the River Chelmer. Bring your own picnic basket and enjoy wonderful acts for the whole family.
South Hanningfield, 5 June
Enjoy live music, a dog agility demo, food and drinks and a variety of children’s activities from 12 noon to 6pm on 5 June at the South Hanningfield Village Hall. Please call 07891 653238 for more information.
