Chelmsford’s new cultural scheme for children seeks ideas

Children experiment with VR headsets

The city’s new Local Cultural Education Partnership is seeking inspiring ideas to get its very first programme for the city’s young people under way.

Cultural initiatives for incubator project

It’s looking for up to 7 initiatives for a 9-month incubator project aimed at understanding how best to develop creative career pathways.

The pilot is built around the LCEP’s vision of placing creativity and culture at the heart of the prospects of children and young people in Chelmsford. It hopes to support new ideas, big and small, that will nurture Chelmsford’s future workforce.

Open to any creative form

The programme is open to both individuals and organisations working in any creative form. This could include visual arts, digital, sound and performing arts, craft, design, film, spoken word, literature, and music.

Seed funding and support

Successful applicants will work with a small number of children and young people to test their ideas over the course of 9 months. There’ll be seed funding, 1-1 support, and help to develop ideas.

The programme will help to build innovative local partnerships that actively champion creative and cultural opportunities in Chelmsford.

About Chelmsford’s LCEP

Chelmsford’s Local Cultural Education Partnership is delivered by Chelmsford City Council and Culture Chelmsford with partnership investment from Royal Opera House Bridge with funding from Arts Council England.

The vision is to build on Chelmsford’s heritage of innovation, providing all children and young people with cultural and creative opportunities that broaden their horizons and support them to reach their potential.

The incubator is a key part of the LCEP’s 2-year programme. It aims to generate evidence on practices that are successful (and unsuccessful) and enhance its understanding of the sector.

How to apply

If you’d like to apply, download the LCEP Incubator application Pack  for details on how to submit an expression of interest.

If you have any questions about the application process or the incubator programme itself, please get in touch by contacting Rachana Vaja at LCEP@ignitechelmsford.org.uk.

The closing date is Sunday 3 July 2022 (11.59 pm).
