By-election and referendum results

Stock
By-elections took place on 12 December for the Essex County Council Stock division and the Chelmsford City Council South Hanningfield, Stock and Margaretting ward

Some Chelmsford residents went to the polls on 12 December to vote in by-elections and a referendum.

One election was to elect an Essex County Councillor to represent the electoral division of Stock. The other election was for a Chelmsford City Councillor to represent the South Hanningfield, Stock and Margaretting ward.

Danbury residents also voted in a referendum on the Danbury Neighbourhood Plan on the same day.

Essex County Council election of a County Councillor for Stock division

Susan Melanie Dobson, the Conservative Party Candidate, was elected to represent the Stock division in Essex County Council. The full result was as follows:

Michael Thomas Allison, ReformUK – Changing Politics for Good, 977 votes

Stephen Edward Capper, Labour Party, 127 votes

Paul Hayden Clark, Independent, 160 votes

Susan Melanie Dobson, The Conservative Party Candidate, 1304 votes

Edward Paul George Massey, The Green Party Candidate, 89 votes

Christine Margaret Shaw, Liberal Democrats, 156 votes

Turnout: 19%

Chelmsford City Council election of a City Councillor for South Hanningfield, Stock and Margaretting ward

Gillian Swain (known as Gillian Bonnett), The Conservative Party Candidate, has been elected as a Chelmsford City Council ward member for South Hanningfield, Stock and Margaretting. This is the full breakdown:

Stephen Edward Capper, Labour Party, 48 votes

Edward Massey, The Green Party Candidate, 75 votes

Christine Margaret Shaw, Liberal Democrats, 70 votes

Gillian Emma Swain (commonly known as Gillian Bonnett), The Conservative Party Candidate, 838 votes

Danbury Neighbourhood Plan referendum

Residents in Danbury voted on the same day in a referendum on a Neighbourhood Plan, developed by Danbury Parish Council. It covers the whole of the parish, and includes planning policies on the environment, village character, development, and open space.

The majority voted in support of the draft Plan and the results were as follows:

No: 155 votes

Yes: 842 votes

The Danbury Neighbourhood Plan will now be adopted and will become part of Chelmsford’s Local Plan.
