Stage production of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women coming to Chelmsford Theatre

Landscape Theatre Screens 1920 X 1080

Chelmsford Theatre is set to welcome yet another West End production later this year. The stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s renowned novel, ‘Little Women’, is coming to the theatre from Tuesday 7 until Saturday 11 October 2025.

It’s the next big production secured for Chelmsford Theatre in 2025 following Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical, which ended its five-night run at the theatre on Saturday.

Chelmsford Theatre members have 24 hours priority booking today (10 March) to grab their seats for Little Women, with general sale opening from 10am tomorrow, Tuesday 11 March.

New adaptation celebrates bold, persistent and self-assured women

Written by Anne-Marie Casey, this new stage adaptation of the classic novel draws on the recent success of the 2019 Greta Gerwig film. First published in 1868, Alcott’s original novel – inspired by her experiences growing up – was an immediate critical and commercial success. Today, Little Women continues to be cherished and relevant as a celebration of bold, persistent and self-assured women.

Casey’s stage adaptation of the classic story offers a captivating rendition of Little Women that breathes new life into a beloved classic.

Theatregoers will experience the enduring journey of the March sisters – tomboy Jo, beautiful Meg, sensitive Beth, and spoilt Amy, as they as they navigate the challenges of the Civil War era, forging unbreakable bonds of love and family.

Critically-acclaimed production has attracted top TV talent

First created in 2011, critics have praised Casey’s Little Women, dubbing it a ‘delight for fans of Louisa May Alcott’s enduring novel’ (The Guardian).

The current UK tour features well-known TV names including Belinda Lang of BBC sitcom ‘2point4 Children’ playing Aunt March and Honeysuckle Weeks of ITV wartime drama series ‘Foyle’s War’ playing Marmee.

Theatre Director Rhys Thomas, says fans of the book are sure to love this true-to-novel adaptation from Anne-Marie Casey:

“This is yet another high-end production coming to Chelmsford Theatre hot on the heels of Cruel Intentions last week – but with a very different tone! Little Women is a powerfully emotional coming of age story that has touched the hearts of thousands of fans of the original novel and recent films. With excellent reviews from critics, Anne-Marie Casey’s stage adaption clearly does justice to Alcott’s enduring story. For fans of the book, this production is sure to strike a chord as you watch these beloved characters live on stage. And for those who aren’t familiar with the storyline, it'll bring on tears, laughter and adoration as you journey into the lives of Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth. I think our theatre audiences will be delighted by this latest West End production coming to Chelmsford.”
