Major new Creamfields festival secured for Chelmsford
Chelmsford City Council has signed a long-term deal to bring one of the UK’s major festivals to the city. Creamfields, one of the world’s biggest electronic music promoters, is creating a brand-new festival at Hylands Park in June 2022. The famous festival, which is based in Daresbury in Cheshire, has just announced its plans to bring the award-winning event south with a sister festival in Chelmsford.
Festival planned for Platinum Jubilee
Creamfields Chelmsford will take place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 of June 2022, during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend. The two-day camping festival will have a capacity of 50,000, with day tickets and a range of camping tickets available. The multi-stage event will give festival goers the chance to experience its huge Steel Yard superstructure, which has been built for big crowds to see superstar acts and can accommodate 15,000 people at a time.
The launch of Creamfields Chelmsford is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original sell-out festival, which attracts big-name artists and dance music heavyweights like Calvin Harris, Eric Prydz, Carl Cox, and The Chemical Brothers. Creamfields is also one of the few festivals to have successfully established itself on the global market, with shows in Ibiza, China, Hong Kong, Chile, Argentina and Peru.
Creamfields Chelmsford marks new chapter
Hylands Estate was the setting for the V Festival for more than 20 years, between 1996 and 2017 with a virtual 3-part TV special in 2020. Creamfields Chelmsford will have a smaller footprint within Hylands Estate than the V festival, and the public will have access to more of the park in the lead-up to this new event than used to be possible. The successor to V and Rize at Hylands will also take place in June each year rather than in August, with visitors able to enjoy the historic estate and its grounds throughout the summer school holidays without interruption.
The Leader of Chelmsford City Council, Cllr Stephen Robinson, says the inception of Creamfields Chelmsford is an exciting new chapter for the city.
“Choosing Chelmsford to host the new southern edition of one of the country’s biggest festivals, and a global brand at that, is a huge endorsement of the city as a destination for big events. One of our key aims is to make Chelmsford a better-connected place and this will put Hylands Park back on the map as a one of the UK’s top festival locations.
“A new music festival will also boost the local economy and generate income for the City Council. This will help ensure that the Council can continue to invest in the park for everyone to enjoy. The City Council aims to secure bookings of the park from a wide range of different organisations and looks forward to working with Festival Republic to ensure that they deliver a great experience for both Chelmsford residents and festival goers.
“I am also delighted that the different timing will ensure that Hylands Park isn’t closed off to residents for much of the summer holidays, as it was in the past.”
Experienced team behind festival
The festival is being produced by some of the country’s most experienced event organisers and operated by Festival Republic, the promoter in charge of V and many of the UK’s biggest music festivals. A Creamfields spokesperson says it will be an exciting new addition to the UK festival calendar.
“We’re delighted to bring Creamfields to Chelmsford next year which coincides with our 25-year celebrations. Our team has many years of experience and expertise in staging major outdoor events such as this and we’re looking forward to putting on what will be a fantastic show bringing some of the biggest names in electronic music.”
