Learn more about sustainable fashion with Love Your Chelmsford

Earlier this year, Love Your Chelmsford launched a sustainable fashion campaign. This was to highlight the environmental impact of buying new clothes and the associated waste epidemic. The team promoted ways to love the clothing you already own, and what to look out for when buying new clothes.

Sustainable fashion campaign initiatives

Love Your Chelmsford launched a travelling Sustainable Fashion exhibition at Chelmsford Museum and Chelmsford Cathedral. The exhibition promoted a survey on Chelmsford residents’ shopping habits, and taught residents how to better look after their wardrobe. They also held a mending workshop, which saved over 32 textile pieces from being thrown away! If that wasn’t enough, Love Your Chelmsford hosted an inspiring upcycling competition for school aged children. Have a look at these five impressive designs from the competition.

Sustainable Fashion Campaign

Love Your Chelmsford teamed up with local women from the sustainable fashion sector for the campaign. They filmed videos on high street pre-loved fashion, online shopping tips and the running of a clothes swap. You can find these on their video gallery.

Although the team is now wrapping up the campaign, they will continue engaging with the latest developments in sustainable fashion. Check out this video, which explains the environmental impact of fashion, and offers tips on how to reduce your fashion footprint.

Please spare a moment to take part in this one question poll, regarding your thoughts on the above video.

Councillor Terry Sherlock, Chelmsford City Council’s Climate and Ecology Ambassador, thinks Love Your Chelmsford’s sustainable fashion campaign was a great initiative to encourage a younger demographic to get involved:

“Love Your Chelmsford do excellent work for the local area to highlight sustainability and how residents can play their part to be greener. The team’s recent initiatives towards sustainable fashion were a great way to get young people involved in thinking about what small changes they can make with regards to their shopping choices. Young people are the future, the way they act now will impact the world they live in going forward, so we will continue to encourage this demographic to play their part in combatting climate change.”
