If you run or work for a business in Chelmsford (or you’re thinking of setting one up here), a new website has launched with advice and support to help you fulfil your potential. Invest Chelmsford is a new site from Chelmsford City Council dedicated to promoting everything the district has to offer, along with support services for the area’s existing businesses.

Home to thousands of businesses

More than 9,000 businesses have already made Chelmsford their home, from innovative start-ups and SMEs to large multinational corporations. Chelmsford’s economy is one of the fastest growing in Essex, contributing around £5.6bn and 90,000 employee jobs to the wider UK economy. The strong business base here supports a high level of employment in the area, and the city’s job market continues to expand as new businesses are established.

Thirty-five businesses employ more than 250 people in Chelmsford, with diverse sectors represented. Advanced manufacturing, technology, construction, professional services, medical and life sciences, logistics, retail, leisure and tourism can all be found in the district, with cutting-edge firms and leaders in their field all based in Chelmsford.

Tailored business support services

The Invest Chelmsford website is dedicated to helping businesses unlock all the opportunities Chelmsford has to offer. There’s up-to-date information on local services, including one-to-one training and fully funded Visit Essex membership for visitor economy businesses.

There are contact details for a range of support organisations in both Essex and the wider region, and profiles of businesses already thriving in Chelmsford to inspire others at an earlier stage of their journey. The Invest Chelmsford team has also been working with local digital marketing specialists Better Agency to create the Get Better in Chelmsford podcasts. From creating spirits to growing sunflowers, series one features brave and brilliant Chelmsford businesses sharing their unique stories, with a second series coming soon

“As an Essex resident, Chelmsford was an obvious choice to start our business. A thriving and growing city, it offers a dynamic mix of residents, students, and visitors, all of whom appreciate high-quality dining experiences. Its reputation as a vibrant food and drink destination made it the perfect place for us to bring our concept to life.

"We’ve been able to access valuable business support programs such as Group2Grow – The Essex Peer Network Programme, which has provided excellent networking and mentoring opportunities. We’ve also taken advantage of finance courses by Backing Essex Business, which have helped us strengthen our financial planning and management. These initiatives have been instrumental in helping us grow sustainably and navigate the challenges of running a business.”
