The full cast has been announced for the upcoming UK tour of brand-new smash hit musical, Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical, which comes to Chelmsford Theatre this March.

Iconic storyline sees high school step siblings engage in a cruel bet

Produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd. and created by Jordan Ross, Lindsay Rosin and Roger Kumble, Cruel Intentions is based on the popular ‘90s film of the same name, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon. The film was inspired by French novelist Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 book, ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’.

Cruel Intentions follows step siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil as they engage in a cruel bet: Kathryn goads Sebastian into attempting to seduce Annette Hargrove, the headmaster’s virtuous daughter.

Weaving a web of secrets and temptation, their crusade wreaks havoc on the students at their exclusive Manhattan high school. It’s not long before the duo become entangled in their own web of deception and unexpected romance, with explosive results.

The musical adaptation features the best songs of the ‘90s from the likes of Britney Spears, Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, TLC, R.E.M., Ace of Base, Natalie Imbruglia, The Verve, *NSYNC and many others!

Exciting cast announced for first major national tour

Following sold-out runs in London and New York, Cruel Intentions is now embarking on its first major national tour in 2025. Starting in Windsor in February, the production will be in Chelmsford 4–8 March.

Chelmsford Theatre Director, Rhys Thomas, says this latest production by the renowned Bill Kenwright Ltd. is one not to be missed:

“Cruel Intentions is the second Bill Kenwright Ltd. musical to come to Chelmsford Theatre and, judging by the reception of the first one that we welcomed back in 2023 – Blood Brothers, I’m confident that this production will be another spectacular showstopper to wow our audiences.

“With more than 40 4* and 5* reviews for this relatively new musical, Cruel Intentions really is one not to be missed. I know our amazing local audiences will be blown away by the talented ensemble delivering this knockout 90's musical! Catch it while it's in Chelmsford!”

After a season at The Other Palace in London, Abbie Budden (Jack and the Beanstalk, Ipswich Regent Theatre) will return to the role of the headmaster’s daughter, Annette Hargrove, while new faces Will Callan (Les Misérables, West End & UK and Ireland tour) and Nic Myers (Cabaret, West End) will play step siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil.
