A Family Cycling Along An Outfdoor Path

Learn all about the joys of cycling and enjoy a free event with something for everyone.

Want to get your children cycling? Come along to the fun-packed day of cycling activities for families and children on Saturday, 30 April.

Chelmsford City Council’s Community sport and wellbeing team is holding the cycling taster day in Central Park, in Chelmsford,  with a great line-up of activities – and a chance to be entered into a prize draw.

The event lasts from 10.30am to 2.30pm. All sessions are an hour long and run by experienced instructors

Balance Bikes

Try a balance bike and see how easy it is to get your children whizzing around without the need for stabilisers. Our experienced instructors will lead a fun filled session – bikes and helmets provided. Suitable for three to five-year-olds. All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer at all times.

Learn to ride taster session

You’re never too old to learn to ride. Come along to the learn to ride taster session with experienced instructors. Don’t own a bike? Don’t worry, bikes and helmets will be provided, or you can bring your own.

Ditch those stabilisers and let our instructors give you hints and tips to get cycling without the wobbles. All children must be accompanied by a parent or carer at all times. Suitable for five years and above.

Treasure hunt

Take a ride with our experienced  instructors on a traffic free treasure hunt along the cycle paths from Chelmsford to Writtle and find out about our Explore Chelmsford cycle maps and cycle routes.

Our experienced instructors will lead a family friendly ride at a gentle pace from Chelmsford to Writtle and back over a traffic free three to four mile route. Suitable for children with accompanying adults. Children must be competent cyclists and able to cycle for 30 to 40 minutes. Adult and child bikes can be provided, just let us know on the booking form.

Antony Bensley, community sport and wellbeing manager, said: “At www.chelmsford.gov.uk/explore we have mapped over 13 great family friendly (and mostly traffic free) cycle routes across Chelmsford . Each map has an Eye Spy quiz and you can enter a prize draw for a £50 Halfords voucher just for letting us know the answers. So come along – and test your skills!”
