Free digital training for Chelmsford residents

Chelmsford residents who are eligible can now apply for free online training courses to improve their digital skills. There is a wide range of short and long-term courses, from day-to-day essential IT skills like social media and online banking to industry recognised certification. 

The North Essex Economic Board (NEEB), a partnership of local authorities working together to drive economic growth in North Essex, fully funds this scheme.

Take a look at some of these beneficial courses that are available under this scheme: 

TechTalent Academy – AWS re/Start  

TechTalent Academy offers certified courses in IT qualifications and apprenticeships that will help those looking to upskill and kickstart a career in tech. 

The next upcoming course is the AWS re/Start programme which begins on 12 September. This is a full time, 12-week remote course that includes the AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam. 

In addition to scenario-based learning, learners will experience hands-on labs and work with professional mentors and accredited trainers during the course. Soft skills such as collaborative problem solving, adaptive communication, and time management will also be taught in the programme. 

The course is open to Chelmsford residents over the age of 19 years, who are currently unemployed or have been affected by Covid circumstances.

Shaw Trust – Skills Path 

The Skills Path programme by Shaw Trust aims to guide people who are recently unemployed to find the right career path. Refugees and employed EU nationals looking to upskill are also eligible to join the programme.  

The training programmes focuses on priority sectors such as construction, health and social care, warehousing and storage, customer service and more. Additionally, the program offers mental health support, coaching, and mentoring for all trainees.

We Are Digital  

Our daily lives revolve around accessing services, products, and advice online. However, this could be challenging for some. Chelmsford residents who are struggling with essential IT skills can benefit from free remote training and support facilitated by We Are Digital

There are a number of basic skills being taught, including: 

  • How to use social media such as Facebook 
  • How to video call friends and family 
  • Internet safety 
  • How to fill government forms online 
  • How to shop online
