Chelmsford’s Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade 2025

Remembrance Sunday 2024 (1)
Chelmsford's Remembrance Sunday Parade in 2024.

This year’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 9 November at the War Memorial on Duke Street, Chelmsford from 10.55am.

The Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jannetta Sosin, will join veterans and members of the public to pay respect to those currently serving in the Armed Forces, as well as those who gave their lives for our country in historic conflicts.

The service will be conducted by The Very Reverend Dr Jessica Martin, Dean of Chelmsford, with contributions from members of the Chelmsford inter-faith community. Wreaths will also be laid by the Mayor of Chelmsford, Armed Forces representatives, and Chelmsford community groups. If you would like to lay a wreath during the event, please register your interest in advance by emailing your request to mayors.office@chelmsford.gov.uk and including your organisation name.

A two-minute silence, marked by the firing of the maroons, will be observed at 11am on both Sunday 9 and Tuesday 11 November. Following the service on 9 November, the Parade will march off along Rainsford Road before returning to march past the War Memorial, where the Mayor will take the salute.

The Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jannetta Sosin, encourages Chelmsford residents to support this year’s Poppy Appeal:

“This Remembrance Sunday, I welcome residents from all faiths, backgrounds and communities to join us for Chelmsford’s annual service to honour all members of our Armed Forces and reflect on their astounding daily sacrifices. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who have fought, died or become injured during active service to our country. As we approach 11 November, we can show our appreciation for our Armed Forces by supporting the vital work of the Royal British Legion and wearing our poppies with pride.”

Councillor Jannetta Sosin, Mayor of Chelmsford

Please note, parts of Duke Street will be closed from 10am on Sunday 9 November but access to Fairfield Road Car Park from Coval Lane will still be available. As in previous years, there will also be a shelter provided for elderly and disabled ex-service men and women.

The Order of Service, which includes hymns and prayers, is available to download from Chelmsford City Council’s website at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/remembrance.
