Chelmsford’s Remembrance Sunday Parade 2022

This year’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 13 November from 10.50am at the Duke Street War Memorial. 

A new Mayor of Chelmsford will be appointed on Wednesday 9 November, following the death of Cllr John Galley. Residents are invited to join the new Mayor at the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service to commemorate all those who sacrificed their lives during conflicts and those who continue to serve our country’s Armed Forces today. 

The service will be conducted by The Very Reverend Nicholas Henshall, Dean of Chelmsford and members of the Chelmsford inter-faith community. A two-minute silence, marked by the firing of the maroons, will be observed at 11am on both 11 and 13 November. Following this, wreaths will be laid by the new Mayor, Armed Forces representatives and Chelmsford community groups. Following the service, the Parade will commence, proceeding along Rainsford Road before returning to march past the War Memorial, where the Mayor will take the salute. 

The Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Sue Dobson, asks residents to proudly support those who have served and continue to serve today.

Whether they served 100 years ago, 50 years ago, or today, we owe all members of our Armed Forces a debt of gratitude for their role in defending and protecting us. Chelmsford’s Remembrance Sunday Parade provides us with an opportunity to reflect on and pay tribute to the service given by all generations of the Armed Forces. I encourage residents to attend the event and wear their poppies with pride.”

Please note that parts of Duke Street will be closed from 10am on Sunday 13 November. Access to Fairfield Road Car Park from Coval Lane will still be available. As in previous years, there will also be a shelter provided for elderly and disabled ex-service men and women.
