Chelmsford’s Christmas lights switch on this weekend
After last year’s November lockdown stopped events in their tracks, this year’s Christmas light switch on is set to be a festive celebration to remember! Run by Chelmsford For You and supported by the City Council, there will be a full line-up of activities for all to enjoy.
On Sunday 21 November, there will be plenty going on from 12pm until 5pm within the city centre. This event will mark the beginning of Chelmsford’s festive celebrations. There will be a host of activities taking place such as live music performances from artists like the Spark drummers, a Christmas market where you can enjoy some mulled wine and roasted chestnuts and some fabulous walkabout acts to keep everyone entertained.
There’ll also be face painting, the Apres Ski bar in Bond Street for winter drinks and an amazing firework display at 5pm marking the start of Christmas season. Chelmsford For You podcasters, Sara Tupper and Will Richards, will be guiding the crowd through the afternoon on the mainstage too.
There’ll be an awards ceremony to recognise people who’ve made a difference to the Chelmsford Community. Chelmsford City Theatres panto cast will also be making an appearance for a special prize giveaway.
“‘It will be great to see people supporting our high street at this year’s Christmas lights switch on event. After the hit from the pandemic, it is vital to give local businesses a chance to thrive, and this event is the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy themselves and get into the Christmas spirit’."
Councillor Simon Goldman, Cabinet Deputy for the Economy and Small Business
