Broomfield residents to vote in Neighbourhood Plan referendum

Broomfield Church Green

Broomfield residents will have a chance to vote in an upcoming local referendum on Thursday 27 February 2025.

The Broomfield Neighbourhood Plan has been developed by Broomfield Parish Council. It covers the whole of the parish, and includes planning policies on village character, development, building design, biodiversity and wildlife habitats, active and healthy travel and community facilities.

What’s a Neighbourhood Plan?

Neighbourhood plans are documents which set out policies for development and use of land in a neighbourhood. Town and parish councils usually take the lead in creating development plans, making development decisions for their local area that fit with the community’s needs. The city council helps them to create the plans and make decisions at key stages.

Broomfield Parish Council has developed a neighbourhood plan which they think will benefit the local community, following community consultation. Now residents get the chance to vote yes or no on whether it should be used.

Who can vote?

You will only be able to vote in the planning referendum if you are registered to vote in the Broomfield Parish Council area. You’ll receive a poll card if you’re registered to vote, and these will start to arrive at the end of January.

If you aren’t currently registered to vote and wish to vote in the referendum, you’ll need to register on the GOV.UK website by midnight on Tuesday 11 February 2025.

If you are eligible to vote in this referendum, you can cast your vote at the appropriate polling station. The two polling stations for this referendum are:

  • Broomfield Village Hall, 158 Main Road, Broomfield Chelmsford, CM1 7AH
  • Chelmer Valley High School, Court Road, Broomfield, Chelmsford, CM1 7ER

Voters will need to present an accepted form of photo ID to vote in person at this referendum. Find out more about voter ID.
