The Deli is coming to The Stables Café at Hylands Estate

The café at The Stables on the Hylands Estate has a new operator – local business, The Deli. The café has been closed since November 2022 while a tender process to select a new provider has been ongoing.

Independent delicatessen and tearoom

The Deli is an independent delicatessen and tearoom, currently operating in two locations: The Deli Ingatestone (opened in 2009) and The Deli Warley (opened in 2022).

The business was born in 2009. Their love of great food has fuelled their success and, almost 14 years on, they have two popular eateries, serving varied all-day breakfast, brunch, and lunch options to eat in and take away.

Alongside their Ingatestone and Warley shops, The Deli also offers a wide range of everyday and bespoke private catering services.

Homemade and locally sourced

The Deli’s owner, Phil Stacey, believes passionately in the importance of homemade food and locally sourced produce. The business works with some fantastic local suppliers to ensure the best quality food while supporting local independents. These include Ravens Bakery and Galvin Family Butchers in Ingatestone, JM Swift Fruit and Veg in East Hanningfield, Sticky Pickle Company in Braintree, and Chadacre Honey in Galleywood.

Visitors to The Deli Hylands can expect a varied menu, including plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Savour fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and seasonal salads, plus their famous homemade sausage rolls, as well as cakes, pastries and tarts crafted by staff at The Deli’s farm kitchens in West Hanningfield.

Fully stocked delicatessen

In addition to an eat in and take away café service, The Deli will also offer a fully stocked delicatessen, selling cheeses, charcuterie, local produce, biscuits, and cakes. These varied products will celebrate the best of British and European suppliers, enabling customers to browse new and interesting items to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.

The Deli’s owner, Phil Stacey, says Hylands Estate is the perfect next venture for his business, with personal links to the estate for him and many of his staff:

“My vision for The Deli at Hylands is more than just a café. We want to create a truly exceptional experience which caters for the needs of all the park’s users. I’ve known Hylands Estate my entire life, as have many of my employees, who often take their children to the playground or attend festivals. We want to enhance The Stables area and support its other businesses by becoming the hub of this community, helping to boost the prosperity and enjoyment of everyone here. The whole team are really looking forward to getting started at Hylands.”

Cllr Rose Moore, Cabinet Member for Greener and Safer Chelmsford, says the reopening of the café will be much welcomed by the Estate’s regular visitors:

“We’ve missed the café at Hylands over the last few months and I know that many others, from dog walkers to families visiting the adventure playground, have also missed its presence. Though we’ve still had a brilliant refreshment offer at The Stables from The Steaming Mug and Full Throttle Coffee, it’ll be wonderful to see The Deli welcoming customers in soon for a delicious meal, a hot drink, and a space to sit and unwind.”

Lorraine Thorne, Hylands House Manager, says The Deli will bring excellent customer service and a positive vibe to Hylands Estate:

“The Deli’s friendly approach to business with excellent customer service is at the heart of what they do and has earned them a valued and loyal customer base. We’re so thrilled to be bringing this to Hylands very soon and can’t wait to watch this local business continue to grow in this new venture.”
