Lime trees were planted earlier today at Lionmede Park in a special ceremony to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Chelmsford City Council joined Civic organisations around the United Kingdom to honour this significant date in the Jubilee celebrations – the seventieth day of the seventieth year anniversary of HM Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne.

The tree planting ceremony is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”

Today we are taking part in this nationwide initiative to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee year of Her Majesty the Queen. It is 70 days since the 1st of January, a suitable date for Civic leaders across the country to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum year. It seems fitting to plant lime trees on this site to mark this occasion, in keeping with already established mature lime trees.

The Platinum Jubilee is a unique event and it is appropriate that the extraordinary contribution made by our Queen to the nation over 70 years of service should be marked across the country. The Queen’s Green Canopy is designed to provide a permanent legacy that is truly sustainable for the benefit of future generations.

This marks a significant day where along with other Civic leaders across the country, we have been encouraged to plant a tree to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee and to support the Green Canopy initiative. It has been a real honour and pleasure to be part of this historic day.
