2022 Panto tickets on sale after successful Civic run

Chelmsford City Theatres have put tickets for their next panto on sale following an acclaimed and unbroken run of Beauty and the Beast at the Civic in association with One From The Heart. Jack and the Beanstalk is the classic story planned for the theatres’ winter 2022 programme.

Unbroken run for 2021 panto

Tickets for the theatres’ annual pantomime usually go on sale at the start of the year, but disruption caused by the pandemic meant seats for Beauty and the Beast were released months later than usual. Despite this setback, attendance was almost 80% for the 2021 panto, down just 11% on the season before the pandemic began.

Although productions across the country were hit hard by covid-related absences at the end of last year, Beauty and the Beast didn’t experience any replacements to its cast and apart from one or two changes to school performances, its run took place exactly as planned.

Cllr Marie Goldman, Chelmsford City Council’s Deputy Leader is proud of what the team has achieved.

“Putting live theatre on is so hard at the moment, so what an incredible feat to pull off a normal run of the Civic’s most complex production in another year affected by Covid-19. Our annual family panto brings joy to the city and it’s wonderful to see how well supported and appreciated it is by our residents, even at such a difficult time.”

Reviewers praised Beauty and the Beast

The Chelmsford Theatres’ panto is well known for casting a quality ensemble rather than relying on big-name stars. Beauty and the Beast received excellent reviews for its “super-talented cast with a collective ton of theatre experience”. One From The Heart’s artistic director Daryl Back says everyone worked especially hard this year.

“We had such a brilliant cast and crew for Beauty and the Beast who took everything in their stride. It’s been another tough year for our industry, and it was a huge relief to see people back to work for a full season of panto. We’re already working on Jack and the Beanstalk at the Civic, which is one of our favourite productions. Don’t forget to book early to make sure you get the seats you like best!”
