Celebration of wellbeing at Civic Carol Service

Members of Chelmsford’s diverse communities came together for the annual Civic Carol Service last Friday.

The service was attended by Mayors from across Essex, along with the High Sheriff of Essex Simon Brice, and the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Simon Lyster. The Mayor’s theme this year is “Wellbeing”.

The Dean of Chelmsford, the Very Reverend Nicholas Henshall started the service with a welcome and an opening prayer. There were also prayers and readings from the different faith groups represented at the service. These were led by Canon Tom Page, with Stan Keller from Chelmsford Jewish Community, Sidra Naeem from the Chelmsford Muslim Society and Councillor Smita Rajesh of Chelmsford Hindu Society.

Chelmsford Salvation Army Band played a number of pieces throughout the service, accompanied by their brigade of Timbrels. There were also captivating performances by the Essex Dance Theatre and the Chelmsford Community Gospel Choir.

A retiring collection went to the Mayor’s charities – Helping Hands Essex, Mid & North Essex Mind and Sanctus.
