Neighbourhood plans for SWF and Writtle approved

Chelmsford City Council has formally adopted the Neighbourhood Plans for South Woodham Ferrers and Writtle. Neighbourhood plans are created by local communities so that they can shape future development in their area.

The South Woodham Ferrers Neighbourhood Plan was drawn up by the town council. The plan focuses on improving the town centre, movement around the town, existing and new parks and green areas, and high quality building design.

The Writtle Neighbourhood Plan was created by the parish council and it focuses on the environment, village character, development, and transport. It also proposes principles for development for land in east Chelmsford (Warren Farm) which have already been allocated in the wider Local Plan.

Residents in both South Woodham Ferrers and Writtle voted in favour of the proposed plans through a referendum in October and the City Council therefore adopted them at the Full Council meeting on 12 December.

“This is a great step forward in balancing necessary development with the infrastructure and quality that local communities want and need, while also empowering the community to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood.”
