Have you ever written a letter to Santa Claus, hoping for the perfect gift?
Coming to the Cramphorn Studio from 19 December, Pip’s Post Room is a captivating, fun-filled family play that tells the story of Pip, a loveable penguin who is Santa’s chief helper at the North Pole.
It is Pip’s job to read all of the letters that the children send to Santa, so he can help to make their wishes come true. Together with his faithful assistant, Esme the squirrel, Pip embarks on a series of magical adventures, inspired by the hopes and dreams they read in the children’s letters.
However, it isn’t long before Esme realises that Pip has a secret wish all of his own. He dreams of being able to fly. But Pip is a penguin, and penguins can’t fly.
Or can they?
An enduring tale of friendship and Christmas cheer, Pip’s Post Room reminds us all of the importance of believing in ourselves, because when we do, anything can be possible.
A chance to inspire self-belief
Premiering in 2019 at the Winchester Discovery Centre, Pip’s Post Room was created by Wind Song Theatre, a female-led company based in Essex. Their mission is to inspire children to believe in their abilities, against all odds.
As theatre-makers, we want to share the message of believing in yourself with children in our audience to show them that no dream is out of their reach, no matter how big or unachievable it may feel.”
Rebecca Ward, Co-Founder of Windsong Theatre

The play features an original score by the Essex-based composer Ashton Moore, who also wrote and composed the musical I Wish, the successful summer youth production which played at Chelmsford City Theatres in August 2021. William Bull plays Pip and Windsong Co-Founder Lily Streames stars as Esme, and the imaginative storytelling will delight children aged three and above, and their families.
