Free e-scooter lessons are being offered in Chelmsford for anyone who would like to use them safely and confidently.

Earlier this year, Chelmsford launched a pilot e-scooter scheme. E-scooter hire is being trialled as a greener mode of transport around the city in partnership with Essex County Council and Ford-owned Spin. The scheme has proven popular so far and you have probably seen people riding the distinctive orange e-scooters around Chelmsford.

If you have reservations and have been holding back from hiring an electric scooter just yet, it’s an opportunity to build confidence with a taster session before you become a scooter commuter.

Spin, alongside Scoot Fit, a professional scooting training company, are offering free 45-minute e-scooter training courses in Bond Street, Chelmsford. Sessions are available on Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April between 11am and 5pm.

How to book

It’s best to book in advance. There will be a limit of six training sessions each hour to keep things Covid-safe. So, to get a slot at the day and time that suits you, book in advance via the website. If you’re passing Bond Street and there are sessions still available, then you can book in person. But you may be disappointed if you turn up without booking first.

Bond Street location

The e-scooter training sessions are taking place in Bond Street in the city centre of Chelmsford. There will be space cordoned off to allow enough room to keep the training safe, near to John Lewis, in the area towards Riverside. The orange scooters should be easy to spot.

Who it’s for

Anyone over the age of 18, with a valid full or provisional driving licence so they are covered by insurance, just like any car and driver, can book in for a training session. It’s not just for the young and adventurous, it’s for all adults to give a go! The training sessions are a great opportunity to build confidence using the e-scooters in a safe and controlled environment.

If you’d like to take advantage of the lesson offer, make sure to book your free e-scooter training session online in advance. To find out more about hiring scooters in Chelmsford, read the pilot e-scooter trial FAQs on the Essex County Council website.
